Rydberg Sensing and Metrology is an emerging research field that explores highly excited atoms for the detection and measurement of electromagnetic fields with high sensitivity and precision. This area is closely related to Atomic and Molecular Physics, with a particular focus on the interaction between atoms and electromagnetic radiation, as well as the development of quantum-based sensing techniques.
A central research direction is the study of ultra-cold Rydberg atoms. By cooling atoms to very low temperatures, it is possible to reduce their motion and achieve greater control over their quantum states. This provides an ideal platform for studying light–matter interactions and developing high-precision measurement techniques. Quasi-electrostatic dipole traps are also important for the controlled confinement and manipulation of atoms, enabling more stable and precise experiments.
